its sad walking down a street full of people

only to feel how anonymous I am

we walk by each other, eyes averted

as if we didn’t walk by each other at all

and that attempts at human connection

is somehow abnormal

Home improvements - Haiti

As soon as we arrived we we were given the opportunity to ride out and visit a new area that the government of Haiti had set aside for people to re-build on. The org who was hosting us had built a house in this peaceful little neighborhood for Antoinette and her family, who had lost her leg in the earthquake the year prior. As we drove along the dirt road and into the lot, I spotted freshly dug wells and residents waving at us happily. When we got farther up on the hills I could look down and view all of the new wooden houses littered the land, though a lot of the other houses were still in tenting material or tin.

there was always underlying superiority

and sideway glaces and disapproving looks

she must be diseased to hoard so many things

but i’ve always thought

it must be nice to see on the outside

for once what you feel on the inside

at least for a moment.
